Arnica (Arnica montana) is an herb that is well respected and known for its healing properties. Arnica is considered to work wonders on swelling, bruises, sprains, and stiffness from overwork and physical trauma.

The Arnica flower has hairy leaves and large yellowish blooms; this perennial alpine herb is indigenous to northern and central Europe; Scandinavia and northern India. The oil is mainly produced in France, Belgium and Germany.

The oil is steam distilled from the flowers and root of the Arnica plant, producing an oil yellow-orange to brownish-orange in color, with a strong, bitter, and spicy aroma. The topical uses are far more significant than its fragrant qualities. Arnica oil should be used with caution, and in drastically diluted concentrations to receive its considerable benefits.

Arnica is often found in gels and creams intended for athletes. Do not use without a carrier, or on broken, irritated, or lacerated skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. Do not use on children.
