Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) comes from a perennial woody vine with heart-shaped leaves and small white flowers. Its berries turn from red to black as they mature. It is native to south west India, and cultivated in tropical countries. The essential oil is produced in India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, and China. The distillation process is conducted in Europe and America from the imported dried fruits. Pepper (both black and white) has been used in the East for more than 4000 years for culinary and medicinal purposes. The essential oil is distilled from the dried and crushed black peppercorns, producing a strong, sharp and spicy, colorless to greenish watery liquid.

Black Pepper essential oil helps build stamina, is a natural pain killer, provides support to the circulatory system,and is used to support issues of constipation or diarrhea of the digestive system.

It blends well with Allspice, Vetiver, Helichrysum, Patchouli, Juniper, Lavender Coriander, Cypress, Clary sage, Ylang ylang, Peppermint, Geranium, Grapefruit, Lemon, Dill, Fennel, Frankincense, Sandalwood and most essential oils. It is non-toxic, and non-sensitizing, but may be irritating in high concentrations. Do not use when pregnant or nursing.
