The Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) is a tall evergreen with slender branches, and has a conical shape. It bears tiny flowers and round, brown cones or nuts. It is native to the eastern Mediterranean,and grows wild in France, Italy and other areas. It is usually cultivated and distilled in France; also Spain and Morocco. The essential oil is steam distilled from the needles and twigs. Cypress oil is a pale yellow to olive-green fluid liquid with an herbaceous, woodsy and balsamic aroma. It was revered as a medicine and incense in ancient cultures and is still widely used in Tibet as purification incense. Can be supportive for the nervous system, circulation and joints, skin care and the respiratory system. It blends well with Bergamot, Chamomile, Black pepper, Juniper, Orange, Marjoram, Sandalwood, Helichrysum, Lemon eucalyptus, Oregano, Myrrh, Ginger, and Ylang ylang. It is a safe, non-toxic, non-irritating oil and non-sensitizing.
