Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is a hardy, bushy perennial herb with erect hairy stems, dark green leaves and pink flower clusters at its tips. The herb is utilized greatly in Mediterranean dishes. It is native to Europe and cultivated in the USA, South America, India, and throughout the world. The oil is produced mainly in Italy, Bulgaria and other regions. Oregano essential oil is obtained by steam distilling the dried flowering herb; producing a thin, brownish-yellow oil with a warm, spicy, herbaceous, sweet and peppery aroma.

Oregano has been used medicinally since ancient time. The oil has been used externally to support pain, rheumatic conditions, digestive concerns, and many respiratory problems.

The oil blends well with Eucalyptus, German and Roman chamomile, Bay, Camphor, Thyme, Tea tree, Cedarwood, Cypress, Lemon, Litsea, Rosemary, Orange, Petitgrain, and other essential oils. May cause skin sensitivity – conduct a patch test with carrier oil prior to application. Do not use when pregnant or nursing.
