The Clary sage (Salvia sclarea) is a biennial or perennial herb with large hairy leaves, and purpleish blue flowers. It is native to southern Europe, and cultivated worldwide; particularly in the Mediterranean region. This oil has origins in China and Bulgaria.

The essential oil is extracted through steam distillation from the flowering tops and leaves, producing a colorless to pale yellow-green liquid with a sweet, nutty and herbaceous scent. Clary sage blends well with other oils like Bergamot, Basil, Black pepper, Cardamom, Coriander, Frankincense, German and Roman chamomile,Helichrysum, Jasmine, Juniper, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Mandarin, Neroli, Nutmeg, Palmarosa, Vetiver, Ylang ylang, and other essential oils. It is non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitizing. Do not use the oil while drinking alcohol as it can induce a narcotic effect and exaggerate drunkenness. Do not use when pregnant or nursing.
