Ravensara (Ravensara aromatica) includes many species of evergreen trees native to the Madagascar region. The tree is wholly aromatic, and has a reddish bark, dark green leaves and yellow-green flowers. The tree thrived in the rain forests, but became an endangered species due to deforestation and exploitation. As a result, the bark is no longer utilized in oil production (only the leaves are used). In Madagascar, this oil is referred to as the oil that heals because it is used for such a wide variety of conditions.

Ravensara can help with chickenpox, shingles, cold sores and herpes. It is also used to support circulation, muscles and joints. The respiratory, immune and nervous systems can also benefit from the use of this oil.

Ravensara oil is steam distilled from the leaves and produces a sweet, lemony fresh, earthy and medicinal scent. It can be used with Eucalyptus, Lemon, Frankincense, Rosemary, Lavender, Roman and German chamomile, Cedarwood, Juniper, Bay, Cardamom, and other essential oils. It is generally considered safe; non-toxic, non-irritating, and non-toxic. Do not use when pregnant or nursing.
