Black Spruce (Picea mariana) is a smal to medium sized slow growing, evergreen with thin, scaly bark. Black Spruce grows in many areas of Eastern Canada, North Eastern USA and the Artic Regions.The leaves are needle-like, and the tree produces small cones that turn dark purple when they’re ripe. The twigs and needles are utilized in the extraction process using the steam distillation method, producing a thin, colorless to yellow oil. It is described as an energizing oil with a very earthy aroma, that is fresh and relaxing. The Lakota Native Americans have used Black Spruce for muscle pain, and healing wounds. They also used it in parts of their spiritual rituals due to its purifying and cleansing properties.

This oil is noted for its ability to support arthritiis, infections, muscle pains. Additionally, Black Spruce is excellent for a cold or flu hampered by muscle aches and pains, sinus congestion and infection, headache and coughing.

It blends well with Lavender, Pine, Rosemary, Clary sage, Cedar Atlas, Balsam, Lavender, Cedarwood, and other oils. Black spruce is non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitizing.
