Cajeput (Melaleuca leucadendron var. cajuputi) is a 50 to 100 foot tall evergreen tree with thick pointed leaves and white, purple, and pink flowers.Native to Australia and Asia; it also grows wild in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. It is closely related to Tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia). The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the fresh leaves and twigs, and produces a pale yellow-green color. The scent is camphorous with a mild fruity aroma.

Cajeput can help ease mental fatigue with its uplifting and invigorating aroma. It can provide support to the respiratory system; can be a friend to those who workout heavily, and/or suffer from muscle sprain/strains, or arthritic conditions. Keep it around for the cold and flu season.

Cajeput blends well with Geranium, Lavender, Bergamot, Camphor, Clove, Thyme, by itself, or with other oils. It is too strong to use with babies or children under ten years old on their faces or in a steam. Use with caution on children between 5-10 years old. Care must be taken when using with asthmatics.
