Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) is a perennial, reed-like herb with long blade shaped leaves. The stems bear small yellow-ish flowers with purple tips, followed by oblong red-brown seeds. The plant is native to southern India and tropical Asia, but cultivated extensively in India and Sri Lanka. It has been used in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine for over 3,000 years. The essential oil is produced by steam distillation from the dried ripe fruit seeds.

Cardamom oil is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a spicy sweet, warming fragrance and a woody, balsamic base note. It blends well with Aniseed, Bay, Black pepper, Cedarwood, Clary sage, Grapefruit, Lemon, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Ylang ylang, and a host of other oils. The oil is non-toxic, a non-irritant and non-sensitizing.This is another great oil that helps support the digestive system; from griping pains, cramping, vomiting, heartburn and indigestion. Cardamon also helps provide support for mental fatigue, sciatica and stress.
