With origins in England and Hungary the Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) presents as a small stocky, perennial herb. It has branched hairy stems, with feathery leaves and daisy-like flowers that are larger than those of the German chamomile. The plant has an apple-like aroma. It has been naturalized in North America and is cultivated in Hungary, England, Belgium, the United States, France and Italy. It has been used in herbal medicine for more than 2,000 years by ancient Egyptians, the Moors, Saxons and throughout Europe and the Mediterranean regions.

The oil is steam extracted from the flower heads, producing a pale blue liquid that may yellow over time. The aroma is sweet, herbaceous, floral and fruity, it blends well with Bergamot, Camphor, Cassia, Clary sage, Cypress, Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender, Mandarin, Melissa, Neroli, Oregano, Patchouli, Tea tree, Ylang ylang and multiple other oils. It is non-toxic, and non-irritating. It ha a deeply relaxing effect and is great for assisting in relaxing, supporting depression and supporting a good nights' sleep. Do not use if pregnant or nursing.
