Allspice (Pimenta dioica) is so named because it tastes like a combination of spices which include cinnamon, juniper berry, pepper and cloves.
Allspice is indigenous to the West Indies and South America and cultivated in Jamaica, Cuba and Central America. Imported berries are distilled in Europe and America. The oil is steam distilled from the leaves and the fruit of the evergreen tree, producing a yellowish-red or brownish liquid with a spicy-sweet and warming scent.
