Copaiba Balsam Essential Oil

Botanical Name: Copaifera officinalis

100% Pure therapeutic grade essential oil

Copaiba (Copaifera officinalis), is popularly known as balsam of copaiba. It comes from a large tropical tree (ranging from 50 to 100 ft high) with leathery leaves, that produces fruit containing a single seed. The tree grows in the rain forests of South America, principally from Brazil and Venezuela, including the Amazon. The part of the copaiba tree that is used is the oleoresin (a clear yellow resin) that accumulates in cavities within the trunk of the tree. The resin (referred to as balsam) is obtained by making incisions into the trunk of the tree.

The essential oil is steam distilled from the crude resin of the tree which produces an oil which is yellow-brown in color, and has a honey-like aroma. It mixes well with Cedarwood, Clary sage, Mandarin and other citrus oils, Jasmine, Rose, Vanilla, Ylang ylang and other oils. Copaiba has been used in traditional medicine, and has a long history in folk medicine. This oil has no contraindications, but could cause dermal sensitivity; conduct a patch test before using on the skin, with a carrier oil.

Essential oils can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used as single (neat) essential oils or in essential oil blends depending on user experience and desired benefit.
