Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis), is an herbaceous plant native to to the Meditteranean region and parts of Asia. It is cultivated in France and Hungary. It is a bright colored perennial shrub with a woody stem that produces bunches of blue, purplish-pink flowers and grows 12 to 24 inches in height. Hyssop has been used for medicine, and purifying sacred places in ancient history. The essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and flowering tops, resulting in a pale yellow-green liquid with an herbaceous, warm, sweet and spicy undertone.

Hyssop is known to be antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral. The oil has been used to support anxiety, colds/flu, and healthy lung function. It blends well with Angelica, Clary sage, Orange, Tangerine, Geranium, Melissa, Basil, Bay, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lavender, Mandarin, Sage and other oils. This essential oil is non-irritant and non-sensitizing, but should be used in moderation and avoided if you have epilepsy. Do not use when pregnant or nursing.
