Cistus (Cistus ladaniferus) is steam distilled using the gum resin from the twigs and leaves of the evergreen shrub found on dry or rocky soils.They have showy 5-petaled flowers ranging from white to purple and dark pink. It has a sweet, balsamy and herbaceous scent. The plant originates in Spain and the Mediterranean region. Cistus blends well with Juniper berry, Clary Sage, Black Spruce, Fir, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Chamomile, Lavender, Lavandin, Bergamot, Cypress, Vetiver, Frankincense and other oils. It is generally non-toxic, non-irritant, and non-sensitizing. Avoid during pregnancy and when nursing.
