Plai (Zingiber cassumunar) essential oil is extracted from the rhizomes from the white flowering Zingiber cassumunar plant. It is a tropical perennial with tuberous roots similar to ginger. The fresh rhizome is fleshy yellow inside and emits a fresh, exotic, herbaceous, peppery aroma. The Plai plant grows about 8 inches in height and is native to Thailand, Indonesia an India. The root of the plant is put through a steam distillation process to extract the essential oil.

Plai contains almost as much terpinen-4-ol as tea tree oil. Terpinen-4-ol has been well researched, and is proven to activate white blood cells. It also has noteworthy anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. Unlike the other oils in the ginger (Zingiber officinale) family, Plai has a cooling effect on torn muscles and ligaments, joint pain, muscle aches, and post operative pain.

An excellent oil for helping to reduce pain and inflammation and increase circulation, Plai also provides digestive support and can help ease nausea, and help to soothe irritable bowels. Plai can act as a stimulant to the immune system. This is a very uplifting oil which makes it great for supporting anxiety, nervousness and stress.
